What are the constituents of a fan for most of us? We see that the fan has got a rotating body to which three or four big blades are attached, isn't it? According to most rather all of us, these blades when rotated cause air circulation that gives us cool air. But ever thought that a Bladeless fan can do the same task even better? Many might think we are talking non-sense but some will surely know about what I am talking.
As many of you might have guessed it, it is the Dyson Air-Multiplier which can provide us with smoother air flow than a fan can, without blades or the sound caused by blades.
In 18 October, 2009 James Dyson announced the release of the new product called Dyson Air Multiplier which looks like a desktop or floor-standing fan without any blades. This device is intended to provide smoother air-flow than a fan without any blades or noise that all fans are used to. The idea for this device came from another Dyson invention Dyson Air blade dryer.
Mechanism:
The fluid dynamics engineers working on the design realised that a large amount of air was being retained in the body of the dryer, and decided to explore utilising it for other purposes. The fan works by drawing air in through an inlet in the base pillar before forcing it through an outlet in the upper ring. The jet of air travels over the aerofoil shape of the ring, creating local low pressure, thereby pulling air from behind it as it decelerates in a process known as inducement. Once the air exits the ring, it forces the air in front and alongside using entrainment. Thus the small brushless impeler at the base can force a large amount of air without any blades (there not actually blades in it but they are rather vanes).
Difference between a fan and Dyson AirMultiplier:
It must be clear to you from the picture given above the difference between the airflow in case of a fan and Dyson Air Multiplier. While a fan gives airflow in broken lines this Air Multiplier gives air much smoothly and multiplied 15 times than it's intake. The Dyson Air Multiplier is also very energy efficient device than a fan. And the biggest difference is that it has got no blades and thus no noise could be heard that we hear when we switch on a fan which makes it a great achievement in the field of air dynamics. Also one more difference is that a fan is cheap while Dyson Air Multiplier is not for all and is very expensive.
So now if you don't want to see any more fans with blades or have phobia of blades of fan (which nobody has), you surely deserve this.
